Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

"Comparison is the thief of joy" – Quote from Theodore Roosevelt. This quote is so actual and also holds for ambition – comparison can discourage you from taking on a new challenge because it feels like there's no point.

In this post, I'll share how I've overcome my insecurities by learning about self-love and self-compassion and drawing inspiration from the many people who have accomplished great things without the pressure of comparison. In addition, I'll share what I've learned about adult children of alcoholics, how to overcome the expectations of your childhood, and the importance of a sense of worth.

And if you're an adolescent tempted to compare your achievements to others, this post is especially for you! I'll give tips to help you avoid comparing yourself to others and stop feeling like there's "nothing special" about you.

1. It's Okay if You still didn't figure out what you want to do in your life

You may be in your twenties. Perhaps you're in your forties. It doesn't matter how old you are – it's okay if you haven't figured out what you want to do. But, unfortunately, you've only got one life, and there's no way to know what will happen next week or tomorrow.

And if you don't have a plan for the rest of your life, that's okay. It's okay to feel confused about what your calling is. Take your time. Be patient with yourself. Take a deep breath, and relax.

It's okay if you're still not sure what you want to do with your life – take your time. You'll figure it out sooner or later, and there's no rush.

2. It's okay if your business is still at the very beginning

You might be getting started, or you've been at it for a while. There's no need to compare your business – in terms of how much money you're making or how successful you are – to other people's businesses.

Everybody is on a different journey. Your business and the businesses of others are all at different stages of growth.

3. Take a deep breath and relax

You might be tempted to compare yourself to your friends or other people you know who are successful or accomplished. But remember – life is a journey, and there's no guarantee that you will ever get the same results as these people. Their paths have taken different turns, and they've chosen other things to do with their time and energy along the way. So it's unrealistic to expect you to have the same career path as somebody else.

You'll get to the same destination at a different speed and on a different journey. You need to accept this and permit yourself to take your time to achieve your goals. Take your time, keep going, and be patient with yourself.

4. It's okay if your dreams are taking longer than you expected

You may be in your twenties. Maybe you're in your forties. It doesn't matter how old you are – it's okay if your dreams take longer than expected. For example, you might think about quitting your job or starting a business, but it could take a little longer than expected. Just be patient with yourself and do what feels right for now.

5. It's okay to be sad and discouraged

You might need to mourn the loss of what you thought your life would look like. And that's okay – it's something you must go through to move forward with your life. But don't set your expectations too high, and remember that good things will happen if you keep working hard and staying focused.

6. It's okay to take a break from your business if you feel like you're slipping

You may be in your twenties. Perhaps you're in your forties. It doesn't matter how old you are – it's okay if you feel things aren't going as well as they were at the beginning of the year or at the beginning of this week. Take a break and do something else for a while. Then, come back to your business after a couple of months and see how you feel about it.

7. It's okay to feel stuck

You may be in your twenties. Perhaps you're in your forties. It doesn't matter how old you are – it's okay if you don't seem to be moving forward with your goals or if things seem to be going slower than they used to. There are many reasons why something might "seem" to be stuck. For example:

· Sometimes, you feel stuck because you're still too attached to an idea, and it's preventing you from taking action. For example, maybe you have an idea about your life in five or even ten years – but it's just an idea. If your life isn't going according to plan, don't get caught up in disappointment. Instead, be flexible and adjust your expectations to reality.

Be creative, organise your journey, have a plan, follow that plan, love yourself always, and remember, obstacles we all have, and that's okay, but the most important is at the end, you can look back and say, "I'm proud because I had reached this far!"

I hope this post was helpful to you, and I will see you next week.
